Step-by-step PMCC education: LEAPS selection, short-call management, rolls, and income tracking — designed for busy traders who want clarity over noise.
Most visitors here already know PMCCs. If you’re new — or want a quick reminder of why they’re powerful — here’s the plain-English version.
A traditional covered call means buying 100 shares of a stock, then selling a call against those shares to collect income. That works — but it ties up a lot of cash.
A poor man’s covered call (PMCC) aims for the same kind of income with less capital. Instead of buying the shares, you buy a longer-dated call option that behaves like a stand-in for the stock. Then you sell shorter-term calls against it and collect the credit.
Same basic idea as a covered call. Much less money sitting on the sidelines.
On average, PMCCs require about 68% less capital than covered calls — so more of your money stays available instead of sitting in 100 shares.
Selling shorter calls can bring in cash on a regular rhythm — weekly or near-weekly — while you hold the longer-term position.
If you already understand covered calls, a PMCC is that same income idea with a capital-efficient twist — not a brand-new strategy to relearn.
When the stock rips, drifts, or drops, you can roll, close, or reset the short call instead of being locked into a giant stock position.
